Claudius proposal
To stop profits generated by Tolmers Village being completely siphoned out by Stock Conversion, Claudius Properties was formed in June 1973.
Claudius is a non-profit making company put together by journalists Chris Booker and Bennie Gray.
Under the Claudius deal all profits were to go to Camden Borough Council.
But what about the people of Tolmers Village?
In September 1973 Camden decided to reject the Claudius proposal in favour of Stock Conversion, “more reliable”.
Immediately a campaign was launched, supported by the TVA, and a petition signed by 8,000 people was presented to the Camden Council.
Because of this public outcry the Council was forced to change its mind, they agreed to consider other alternatives, proposed by local people.
The Claudius proposal is still on the table.
But now we must make known our own demands.
