Roz lived in 10 Tolmers Square in 1978-79, initially sharing with brothers Nick and Oliver and their partners Caroline Lwin, and Rosie Smith; and then with Kate Man.
While living in Tolmers Square, Roz worked for a furniture restorer in Crystal Palace. She carved and constructed reproduction Adams fireplaces and Queen Anne mirrors, and restored fittings damaged in the Brighton Pavilion fire.
After Tolmers Square Roz was re-housed by Camden Council in Kentish Town along with Kate Man and Meir Wigoder. During this time she studied Decorative Arts at the City and Guilds of London Art School in Kennington. After five years in Kentish Town she lived variously in Somerset, the Auvergne in France, and Buckinghamshire with her husband Chris Sykes.
Roz developed a career in mosaics, becoming an experienced mosaicist, and carrying out public art projects up and down the UK. She worked mainly to commission: her clients ranging from film stars and billionaires to public bodies and local communities. Although versed in traditional mosaic techniques, she constantly explored the creative possibilities of the medium to produce new work and to teach and lecture. Her book, The Mosaic Decorator’s Sourcebook, has been translated into several languages and is sold worldwide.
