Some simple guidelines to get you started

Photo Collections

To browse the amazing collection of photos:

Go to Collections in the main menu.
Scroll through the Collection options (in alphabetical order) and select one that interests you.
Scroll through the collection images, displayed in approximate* date order (*photo dates have been estimated where unknown).
To find out more about an image, click on the Information button
You will then have the image title, a brief description and sometimes more details.
Under Categories you will also find buttons for the names of people shown, the address of the property and other information. Click on any of these buttons and it will take you to all other photos with the same people, address, etc.
Use the back button to go back a step or two if needed.

Stories

Te read the great short illustrated stories by people who were there:

Go to Stories in the Main Menu.
Scroll through the options (in order published by default) and select one that interests you.
Click on the title or image to open it.
Note that you can click on the illustrations to find out more about them and link up with the image database..

Explore

To find something specific:

Go to Explore in the main menu
Explore the drop down menus to see what is available and get straight to it.

FOR EXAMPLE:

To see all photos of someone, go to Explore, click on People, scroll to the person’s name and click on it. Photos will be displayed in approximate date order.

To see all photos of an address, go to Explore, click on Address, scroll to the person’s name and click on it. Photos will be displayed in approximate date order.

To see all photos by a photographer, go to Explore, click on Photographer, scroll to the photographer’s name and click on it. Photos will be displayed in approximate date order.

To see the remarkable archive of digitised documents, go to Explore, click on media, select the media you are interested in. Documents will be displayed in date order of production.
